Art? Fashion? or Runway Comedy. . . You decide.

Art? Fashion? or Runway Comedy?

It depends on who you ask but designer Di Mainstone has definitely created something unique with her Sharewear line.

Playing with shapes and the idea of isolation and community in NYC brings an interesting point of view to the table which looks like a mix of Jetson style couture and simply wearable art.

What I find spiffy is that its functional.

You can see that the dress gives you the option of having a wearable reading light wherever you go! Also, when not connected there seems to be an armrest! How convenient! Also, that tail part that pulls out looks like there is what looks like a place to hold your coffee! No spilling, just hands free coffee all the time! I think that’s what it is for, I could be wrong, maybe its just artsy- but if it could hold your coffee or cocktail glass that would be ideal.  As you know, I’m all about fashion that solves problems and this could solve that big problem women have when they don’t have enough hands.  How many times have you been asked to  hold your friend or girlfriend’s purse because she doesn’t have enough hands? Holding the purse?  Guys love that.

I don’t know about you but if I were wearing a dress like that with all those contraptions walking down an alley in NYC I would feel pretty safe.  Thieves would be too confused to rob me, they’d be like “WTF is that? No pockets? No purse? What is that coming out of her hip and head!? I’m not going to take that kind of risk here!”

I’m a fan of Mainstone’s Skorpion line because it looks like she’s wearing her comforter as a dress- something I’ve always wondered if I could pull off.  You’ve got your bed right there. Nap time? Your ready to go.

There you are in jeans and a T shirt and here I am ready to go to bed, anytime. Jelous?

I noticed that all these models aren’t wearing shoes.  Was that on purpose Di Mainstone? If not, I think I’ve found the perfect pairs for the share ware:

Irregular Choice = $115 @ Zappos

Type Z = $109 @ Zappos

I actually think these would go really well with the green.

Guess on Sale for $97 @ zappos

Now, for the lady wearing the bedspread, which at this point I may be sold on.  Any of these would be perfect for it…

Although they are not slippers, I like them enough to wear them to bed:

Promiscuous = $89 @ zappos

Proenza Shouler on Sale for $357 @ eluxury

Alright then so, the final question still remains:

___ Farshion?

___Runway Comedy?

Watch the video if you want to get that feeling, “wtf did I just watch?”

Jelly Time!

Jellies, you know, the shoes made of PVC plastic- in various shapes and styles sometimes infused with glitter are coming back, for like the 4th time.

Here is a little history on Jellies:

Jellies were designed after WWII when there was a shortage of leather in Europe.  All the Italians were freaking out and major Italian factories were fighting against each other with golf clubs from Scotland over the last few bits of leather to make their shoes and sustain their factories.

In fact, this leather shortage was getting so bad that people were walking around barefoot….

By the way, is that guy in the back wearing a sack of potatoes on his head?

Anyway, the leather shortage was a real problem so they had to find other materials to use to create shoes…

PVC Plastic! = Flexible, relatively durable, and inexpensive!

And Jellies were born. They were a hit in the 80’s, came back around in the 90’s, I remember wearing them a ton as a kid and LOVED them because of the glitter- even though they sometimes gave me blisters.

They came “in” and “out” again briefly a couple spring seasons and now they are “in ” again.

So you ask…who is doing Jellies for under $100?

Kate Spade = $63 (Zappos)

Michael Kors = $63 (Zappos)

Stuart Weitzman = $99 (Zappos)

Tory Burch = $95 (Nordstrom)

How about who is doing Jellies for under 200?

Givenchy = $170 (Saks)

Cesare Paciotti = $128 (Zappos)

Jimmy Choo = $175 (Nordstrom or Saks)

Ralph Lauren Karly Jelly Sandal = $195 (endless.com)

Chloe Flat Jelly Sandal = $125 (Saks)

Those are the ones that stuck out to me but I’m sure you can find  much more for less that are equally as adorable!

And last but not least my favorites with the heel by Melissa which are “Jellies” but made from 99.9% ]recycled plastic!!

She also does these cute little numbers with a heel as well….

Again, I’m a fan.
