Art? Fashion? or Runway Comedy?
It depends on who you ask but designer Di Mainstone has definitely created something unique with her Sharewear line.
Playing with shapes and the idea of isolation and community in NYC brings an interesting point of view to the table which looks like a mix of Jetson style couture and simply wearable art.
What I find spiffy is that its functional.
You can see that the dress gives you the option of having a wearable reading light wherever you go! Also, when not connected there seems to be an armrest! How convenient! Also, that tail part that pulls out looks like there is what looks like a place to hold your coffee! No spilling, just hands free coffee all the time! I think that’s what it is for, I could be wrong, maybe its just artsy- but if it could hold your coffee or cocktail glass that would be ideal. As you know, I’m all about fashion that solves problems and this could solve that big problem women have when they don’t have enough hands. How many times have you been asked to hold your friend or girlfriend’s purse because she doesn’t have enough hands? Holding the purse? Guys love that.
I don’t know about you but if I were wearing a dress like that with all those contraptions walking down an alley in NYC I would feel pretty safe. Thieves would be too confused to rob me, they’d be like “WTF is that? No pockets? No purse? What is that coming out of her hip and head!? I’m not going to take that kind of risk here!”
I’m a fan of Mainstone’s Skorpion line because it looks like she’s wearing her comforter as a dress- something I’ve always wondered if I could pull off. You’ve got your bed right there. Nap time? Your ready to go.
There you are in jeans and a T shirt and here I am ready to go to bed, anytime. Jelous?
I noticed that all these models aren’t wearing shoes. Was that on purpose Di Mainstone? If not, I think I’ve found the perfect pairs for the share ware:
